West Austin Residence B

Sometimes clients within the same household have differing views of the ideal landscape. In this case, the husband was from the big-sky plains of West Texas and the wife was raised in the woody, lush landscapes of the Northeast. He liked openness and smoothness; she liked rambling, unmanicured wildness. To make both happy, we inserted a garden courtyard within a densely seeded “wilderness.” Within the stonewalls of the courtyard, the landscape is clean and simple: a manicured lawn, a large spreading oak tree and a fish pond. Now, he can wiggle his toes in the freshly cut grass, and she can cast wildflower seeds and delight in what grows.
